United We Sand Bismarck-Mandan Flood 2011

We have a number of United We Sand t-shirts left, and in order to make another donation to our local Red Cross, United Way & Salvation Army – we need to sell them all.  Thanks to our sponsors, and everyone who bought one so far we have been able to donate $9000 to those above mentioned charities.  We want to give them more, but won’t know how much until we have all of them gone!!

United We Sand Bismarck-Mandan Flood 2011

We have received permission to sell “United We Sand Bismarck-Mandan Flood 2011″ t-shirts from Brenda Levos, the creator of the shirts during the 2009 Fargo Flood.  All proceeds will be donated to our local United Way, Red Cross & Salvation Army.

The t-shirts will be sold for $15 each.  They will be white t-shirts with “sand” colored print (looks just like you got sand all over the front of your shirt with an awesome message engraved).  This will be a great way for you to show your community pride, support some awesome non-profits & will be a talking piece to tell your grandkids about someday.  I can hear it now…”you think you have it bad – we had to sandbag 24 hours a day for weeks…”

24 Hours of Trivia for St Baldricks Foundation

Basin Electric and the Wild Trivia Tour have teamed up to bring you this one-of-a-kind event in the Bismarck-Mandan area! It’s all about raising money for the St. Baldricks Foundation, which helps fight pediatric cancer.

There will be TWO ways for your team to accumulate points during this contest.

Designer Genes Buddy Walk 9/18/10

Registration begins at 10 a.m. with walk to follow at 11 a.m. – Find more information at www.DesignerGenesND.com  

The main purpose of the Designer Genes Buddy Walk is to raise awareness of the potential of individuals with Down syndrome to live, learn, work and contribute to their community. Our main effort is not fundraising, which is why our walk is a little different than some of the other walks.

The walk is approximately 1-mile, and makes three loops around the Capitol Mall symbolizing the “tri-” in Trisomy – the chromosomal abnormality that causes Down syndrome. The general public is encouraged to attend and show their support for people of all abilities. No registration fees are collected from walkers. The walk is to promote Down syndrome awareness and is supported by well-appreciated community sponsors

The Buddy Walk has three primary goals:
To promote acceptance and inclusion of people with Down syndrome;
To raise funds for education, research and advocacy programs; and To enhance the position of the Down syndrome community, enabling us to influence local and national policy and practice.

Brain Train

Less than one in five Americans can identify even one stroke symptom and approximately three million Americans suffer from epilepsy. This is why
St. Alexius Medical Center is proud to host The Brain Train: Get on Board on
Saturday, August 28, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the North Dakota State Capitol.

This family-friendly event is geared to raise awareness and provide education about
brain disorders and prevention of brain disease and injury. Activities include a
community awareness walk, educational exhibits, train rides, ambulance tours, a
Gateway to Science brain exhibit, food, dunk tank and much more.

5th Annual Thunderbird Run

The Wellness Department at United Tribes Technical College introduces the 5th Annual Thunderbird Run Saturday August 20 & 21.   

The event kicks off Friday night with a spaghetti meal, and keynote speaker Olympic gold medalist, Billy Mills at 7:00 in the Multi-Purpose Room.  The cost for this is $5/plate (pre-registered runners are free.)

On Saturday registration starts at 7:00 am, 1/2 marathon at 8:00, 10k at 9:00 and 5k walk/run at 9:10.

They are also looking for volunteers so if you aren’t able to run/walk, but still want to be part of this great event then a volunteer would be an awesome idea.

American Red Cross

Join Stacy & Nicole at the West Dakota Chapter of the American Red Cross on Wed. August 4th at 6:30 at Sertoma Park shelter #9 for entertainment & fun.  For years the Red Cross has been there for everyone in need, and on August 4th it’s your turn to be there for them.  Help support their disaster relief efforts.  Money raised will help for their home fire services, and military family support.

During the 30-minute trek around the park you can enjoy entertainment along the way. When you’re done, enjoy hot dogs and snacks and great summer weather! We ask that each participant contribute at least $25 to the American Red Cross. Bismarck Marathon officials will be present at the event to answer questions you have about increasing your fitness levels so you can be ready to join the Bismarck Marathon as a runner or walker on September 18.
